When You Need Non-Contact

An adhesive roller is the right answer for most board and sheet work. These are the cases where it is not.

The surface cannot take tack

Coated, printed or soft-cured surfaces can lift, mark or gloss where a tacky roller releases. A brush and a vacuum take the particle without loading the surface.

The contamination is not loose dust

Drill swarf, fibre and hair sit in and across the surface rather than resting on it. Brushing dislodges that kind of debris; a roller passes over it.

Consumable cost and changeover are the problem

A vacuum machine has no paper roll to run out mid-shift. The dust goes into a 30 L drawer that is emptied rather than replaced.

How It Works

Two special-fibre brushes — cotton-nylon or Tetoron series, chosen from your material — run against the board and agitate particles off the surface. A vacuum hood over each brush draws the freed particles straight out through two 120 mm inlets, so nothing is redistributed further down the line. Dust is carried to the VJ-2.2HLS collector standing beside the machine.

An intelligent static elimination system sits over both the inlet and the outlet and holds the material under 100 V. Brushing a dry surface generates charge, and without neutralising it the freed dust would settle straight back down — which is why the static figure on this machine is tighter than on the adhesive-roller range.

The machine also carries double-sided adhesive rollers and low-static paper rolls. A board can be brushed, vacuumed and roller-cleaned in one pass, or the rollers can be left out of the configuration where the surface must never be touched. Brushes, rollers and paper rolls all pull out on drawer mechanisms for changeover.

Where It Goes

The machine is an inline unit with roller conveyors either side. These are the positions it is specified for.

Before dry film and before exposure

Board surface has to be clean before lamination, or the particle becomes an open or a short after developing.

After drilling and after routing

Drill swarf and routing dust sit in the surface rather than on it. Brushing lifts it; a roller passes over it.

Before printing and before coating

Anything left on the surface prints through or shows in the coating. Vacuum extraction removes it from the line rather than moving it along.

Contact or Non-Contact

Most board and sheet work is done with an adhesive roller. It takes off what is stuck, not just what is loose, and it does that with fewer moving parts and a lower purchase cost. Specify the non-contact machine when the surface cannot take tack or roller pressure at all, when the contamination is swarf or fibre rather than settled dust, or when a paper roll running out mid-shift is a production problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes it non-contact if the material still runs through the machine?

Nothing tacky is pressed against the working surface. Fibre brushes agitate the particles free and a vacuum carries them out of the machine to a separate collector. On an adhesive-roller machine the particle is removed because a tacky roller touches the surface and lifts it; here it is removed by airflow. That is the difference, and it is why the non-contact machine is specified for surfaces that cannot take roller pressure or tack.

How is the dust collected?

A separate VJ-2.2HLS collector sits beside the machine, drawing 2200 m3/h through two 120 mm inlets into 8 m2 of Toray cartridge filtration. Dust drops into a 30 L drawer that pulls out for emptying, and the cartridge is cleaned by a hand-shaker rather than by removing it. The collector is on castors, so it moves with the machine.

Does it still control static?

Yes. An intelligent static elimination system sits over the inlet and outlet and holds the material under 100 V. That is tighter than the under-200 V figure the adhesive-roller machines work to, because brushing a dry surface generates charge that would otherwise pull the dust straight back down.

What is the cleaning width?

The STMT750 is built at 750 mm. Every machine we build is made to the material, so the width is set from your sample rather than picked from a list.

Can one machine do both contact and non-contact?

The STMT750 carries adhesive rollers as well as the brush and vacuum, so a board can be brushed, vacuumed and roller-cleaned in one pass. Whether the rollers are used is set at the panel. If the surface must never be touched by a tacky roller, they are left out of the configuration.

How is the brush maintained?

The brushes, adhesive rollers and paper rolls all pull out on drawer mechanisms, so a change takes minutes and does not need the machine stripped down.
